The Treasure in the Tree (and How to See It)

May 6, 2018 Speaker: Steve Garcia Series: Loving My Actual Neighbor

Passage: Luke 19:1–19:10

Baby Dedications: Four children are dedicated during this service.

Question: Nearly 3/4 of singles said that they have experienced awkward silences on a first date. 13% of those people said that they have been so desperate for something to talk about, they’ve done this during a date. What is it?
Answer: Googled “conversation starters!”

Dang. Okay, raise your hand...
... if you've ever felt awkward silence on a date...
...if you've googled, “conversation starters” on one of your dates...
....if you think maybe your date has done so!

Social situations are uncomfortable. Sometimes you don’t know what to talk about, right? But there’s nothing like a scandal to break the ice and get people talking.

This morning, we’re going to hear about a time when Jesus started a conversation and caused a scandal. It was almost like he saw his critics in the crowd, turned to his disciples and said, “Let’s give ‘em something to talk about.”

Steve’s message is called “The Treasure in the Tree (and How to See It).” It’s Part 5 of our Spring Sermon Series called "Loving My Actual Neighbor."
