Question: According to a recent survey, this is the number one word you can text someone to cause anxiety. What is it?
Answer: “Sure”
Although the dictionary meaning of “sure” is affirmation and certainty, its meaning can be anything but certain in a text conversation. According to this survey, the problem with “sure” is that it sounds more tentative and less enthusiastic than an outright “yes!” or “absolutely,” especially when you do not have body language or vocal cues to reassure you.
There’s so much going on in our world that causes uncertainty and anxiety and even something as simple as a “sure” in a text response can do that, while the bigger issues of life (like a presidential election perhaps) can be even more distressing. The question is, what do we do with our distress, anxiety, and uncertainty? The good news is we have a God who calls us to cast our anxiety upon Him, because He cares for us. That’s the subject of today’s message called “How to Experience God’s Peace.”
