Question: Previously considered an unacceptable act of political arrogance, a Persian nobleman was the first person to dare do this. What did he do?
Answer: Have his face put on a coin!
Around 445 B.C. an audacious Persian nobleman (Tissaphernes) was the first to put his face on a coin and started a trend that continues to this day. It’s a pretty big deal to have your likeness put on currency. You have to be a pretty famous person who was big in government or influential in society.
We all seem to get intuitively that money is synonymous with fame and power in this world. It shows that where we spend our money is where our priorities lay and where we put our hope. It’s why Jesus said to store up treasure in heaven rather than in this world. For where your treasure is, your heart will be also. Today, pastor Jill brings us a sermon on this topic called “Jehovah Jireh and the Gift of Generosity.”
